The Alloy GCR2000ST is a flexible dual-purpose Gigabit Ethernet Media Converter. It can function as a standalone device or as a Media Converter Module installed in an Alloy 12-slot Media Converter Chassis. It offers dual 1000Base-T auto-sensing 10/100/1000Mbps RJ-45 and 1000Base-SX SC terminated multimode ports. Thus making it an ideal solution for UTP/STP copper to Gigabit Ethernet multimode fiber media conversion tasks. The device's IEEE 802.3ab compliant RJ-45 port supports Gigabit, Fast Ethernet, and Ethernet UTP/STP links up to 100 meters, while the 1000Base-SX port provides a maximum fiber cable range of up to 550 meters.

All GCR2000 Series Gigabit Ethernet Media Converters support Link Fault Passthrough (LFP) in both Far-end-Fault (FEF) and Forced Modes (FM). LFP enables monitoring of both fiber and copper RX ports for signal loss. If there is a loss of RX signal on one media port, the Converter will disable the TX signal to the other media port, passing through the link fault LED status. FEF mode stops sending a link pulse to an LFP-capable Converter on the other end of the cable. This prevents the loss of valuable data transmitted over an invalid link. Combining FM and FEF LFP functions enhances troubleshooting and network security capabilities. Both end devices can be notified of a loss of fiber link, and a managed switch connected to a GCR2000 Series Converter can be configured to disable the link and alert administrators of the event.
