All GCR2000 Series Gigabit Ethernet Media Converters offer support for Link Fault Passthrough (LFP) in both Far-end-Fault (FEF) and Forced Modes (FM). LFP enables these Media Converters to monitor both the fiber and copper RX ports for signal loss. Converter disables TX signal on other ports on RX signal loss, indicating link fault LED status.

The FEF mode in GCR2000 Series Converters stops the transmission of a link pulse to an LFP-capable Converter on the other end of the cable. This causes the link partner Converter to synchronously halt data transmission and prevents data loss on an invalid link. The FM and FEF LFP functions of GCR2000 Series Converters improve troubleshooting and network security by notifying both end devices of a fiber link loss. Furthermore, administrators can configure a managed switch connected to the Converter to disable the link and issue an alert.
