The Alloy FCR200SC.05 media converter is a highly capable media converter. It features dual 100Base-TX auto-sensing 10/100Mbps RJ-45 ports and 100Base-FX SC terminated single-mode ports. These ports use the 1300nm wavelength (with 1550nm models also available), making it an excellent solution for converting UTP/STP copper to Fast Ethernet single-mode fiber networks. The RJ-45 port supports both Fast Ethernet and Ethernet UTP/STP links, providing network connectivity up to a range of 100 meters. On the other hand, the 100Base-FX port can transmit data up to 5 kilometers over fiber cable. Thus allowing for network connectivity over longer distances.

The FCR200 Series Converters offer a unique feature called Link Fault Passthrough (LFP), which supports both Far-end-Fault (FEF) and Forced Modes (FM). With LFP, the media converters can monitor both the fiber and copper RX ports for signal loss. In the event of a loss of RX signal on one media port, the converter automatically disables the TX signal to the other media port, thus passing through the link fault LED status.

FEF mode allows the converter to stop sending a link pulse to an LFP-capable converter on the other end of the cable, which synchronously stops sending data, preventing the loss of valuable data transmitted over an invalid link. The combination of FM and FEF LFP functions supports troubleshooting and network security capabilities, as both end devices can be notified of a loss of fiber link, and a managed switch connected to an FCR200 Series Converter can be configured to disable the link and notify administrators of the event.
